Challenge The Chief!
Challenge The Chief
Is the new PM a Chief or a Chump?
So, the construction industry has its first ever Chief Construction Advisor. But what is the new PM (Paul Morrell) actually going to do?
In an industry ravaged by recession where moral is at an all time low and sub-contractors are on the breadline through lack of work, and "Subbie bashing" by Contractors continues unabated – why the heck are his key priorities;
“...focusing on the Low Carbon Construction Review that Lord Mandelson announced recently
and
... to set out the course that industry needs to take to deliver reductions in carbon emissions?”
I can just see hear the Sub-Contractor's discussion at the golf club
“Hey Steve, I hear you’re a bit short of cash and your business might go under due to the downturn.”
“You're right Dave, but that’s nothing compared to how worried I am about our carbon emissions!”
In a recent interview with Construction News our new PM was asked such challenging questions as
“Are you putting together a team around you?”
and
“Do you have any concerns that your infrastructure knowledge isn’t as comprehensive as your building knowledge...?”
Oh please...ask him some questions the industry is actually interested in!
So, what are the burning questions? Wouldn’t it be great if everyone in the industry had chance to ask him some proper questions?
Well now you can!
If you have a real question and want to find out if our new PM is a Chief or a Chump you can ask your question in one of the following ways;

Let’s Challenge The Chief!
Here's the first of the questions;
What is he going to do about retentions given the government has been deliberating on this for many years?
What is he going to do to improve the problem of late payments given the current LP ACT is useless as the courts don't like it and SME's are frightened to use it etc.
Is he going to do anything about the unfair practice that says if you sue a Solicitor e.g. for work to his home then he can charge £300 an hour for every letter he writes to you and create himself business at the same rate and drag out proceedings which earn him extra money but keep you away from your business?
Is he going to look into the dubious practices of factoring company's whose main aim seems to be to fleece struggling SME's, particularly in the Construction industry because they are an easier target than say retail, and will he impose a regulatory body instead of their self governing one?
How Can We Help?
