Streetwise Answers

Dear Streetwise

When quoting / bidding for a domestic subcontract package through a main contractor - does the main contractor have the right not to disclose the range or list of subcontract prices received or can he state that this information is strictly confidential?

Simon Roy Concrete Repairs

Hi Simon

Unfortunately he can do pretty much what he likes within reason, and keeping the bids confidential will be high on his list.

I have seen countless examples of Specialist Sub-Contractors being told they are "in the running" and that they "might be in with a chance if they can shave some off their bid", when they were already miles lower than anybody else!

If you have not worked for this contractor before you need to be very careful about every aspect of your dealings with them.

I note that you are a member of our LinkedIn Group, so you might want to post a discussion in the group, to see if anyone has experience of working with them.

Best regards
