Wise Up Wednesday: Great News Amongst The Gloom and Doom!
There’s great news for Subbies amongst the gloom and doom!
How come? How come that when everything is going pear shaped, I’m suggesting that there is some great news?
Well it’s this simple: your business and your fortunes do NOT change all by themselves. They are not independent of you.
Because as one guru has just said: “… if you carry on doing what you’re doing right now, and what you’ve been doing to bring you to the point you’re currently at, then where you are, is where you’ll stay!”
And I would add; “… and where most Specialist Contractors, Trade Contractors and Subcontractors are right now, is not a great place to be”
In other words, it’s madness to think repeating the same behaviour is somehow going to give you different, never mind better results.
Here’s The Great News For Subbies
The great news is that your results depend on your actions/behaviour, and…
… you can change your actions/behaviour any time you choose.
So, you CAN change your results!
Of course, you can’t change the state of the economy, or Coronavirus, or any of a million other things that are beyond your control.
But, you can change your direction in a heartbeat. And with a little application you can change your actions and your behaviours.
A Quick Example
Most Specialist Contractors, Trade Contractors and Subcontractors simply accept whatever terms and conditions are put in front of them. They don’t give a second thought to how onerous they are…
… until a problem arises, and the Contractor uses the onerous terms to beat them up – and not pay!
Yet time and time again, when we have reviewed terms and conditions for our Clients, the Contractor agrees to change the onerous terms and conditions.
This is even the case when they have solicitors on board advising them. Some of whom by the way, are the last people that you should be letting near a construction contract.
Why accept 364 pages of contract for an order worth less than £50,000? Our Client didn’t, and with our help, got every single one of our proposed changes agreed!
So, why aren’t more Specialist Contractors, Trade Contractors and Subcontractors having their contracts vetted?
One reason might be that it requires a change of behaviour, and people don’t like to change.
But, that’s sad, because the bad news is that “If you always do what you’ve always done, you always get what you’ve always got.” And usually that’s a poor result with no profit.
Why Not Try A Different Approach?
Everyone says they want things to change, but few are prepared to actually take that first step and do anything about it.
Unfortunately, life and the universe do not care about you one way or the other. They are utterly indifferent to your very existence.
And the sooner you accept this and realise that it’s up to you to make things go the way you want them to, then the sooner you can get on with improving your results, and the happier you’ll be.
We don’t have all the answers, but StreetwiseSubbie.com have been successfully helping Specialist Contractors, Trade Contractors and Subcontractors for over 12 years and in my own case, for over 30 years!
And it’s no exaggeration to say that in that time we have resolved all manner of problems, helped with countless issues, and recovered £millions of pounds!
Unfortunately, we have also spoken to scores of business owners who’ve told us how tired they are of working harder and harder for ever more difficult Contractors and Clients, and for less and less reward.
But, the sad thing is a great many declined our offer of help and decided to go it alone – often with business ending consequences!
So please don’t be like them. Come and see how a few small changes can make a massive difference in your business.
And in my book that is:
