Our Sell Out Conference Will Urge Cameron To Stop The Carnage and Save The Industry!
Firstly may I say thank you so much for the overwhelming response we have had regarding our conference, which has had to have a last minute venue change due to the demand! We have almost 100 delegates and counting already signed up and travelling from all over the UK.
Secondly, let me draw your attention to the fact that David Cameron has written to the NSCC and stated that he is…
“…very aware of the pressures faced by subcontractors in the construction sector’ and that ‘the construction supply chain should not have to wait for lengthy periods to be paid for work they have already completed’.
He went on to say that ‘this is something the Government takes extremely seriously’ and that ‘payment will be included within the Industrial Strategy for Construction’.
There is an overall feeling of a lack of security and safe footing within the construction industry, and we hope the huge amount of support for our conference will help us to call on Mr Cameron to get to grips with the real problems and adopt their Fair Treatment Charter across all public procurement and make it law as soon as possible.
It’s all very well Mr Cameron saying that payment “is something the Government takes extremely seriously” and that “payment will be included within the Industrial Strategy for Construction”, but do they understand what is really going on?
If they do, then they need to address the real problems of late payment, reduced payment, lack of proper valuation and unfounded set offs, all driven by grossly unfair contractual arrangements. The list goes on and on!
We as an industry have to find an answer, and if the government cares about the industry and the 200,000 jobs already lost they need to action this now, before it’s too late! Clearly there is no shortage of thoughts, ideas and inspiration, but what the industry desperately needs is action!
The Prompt Payment Code and Government’s Mystery Shopper service DO NOT WORK, and on the face of it an effective solution that could be introduced both quickly and economically, is the StreetwiseSubbie.com’s ‘Fair Treatment Charter’. If you would like a copy please email us at info@StreetwiseSubbie.com.
The Fair Treatment Charter will be launched in earnest at the ‘Specialist Contracting in the UK is Broken! – What Can We Do To Fix It?’ conference at the Nottingham Belfry on 7th June 2013.
